Racing
Program
The CYC Racing Program provides a wide variety of opportunities for sailors
of all skill levels to participate.
Buoy
Racing Program:
Provides for windward-leward race courses and fleet racing, with up to
three races scheduled on a given race date. Spinnaker and Non-spinnaker
classes will be accommodated. Races will be approximately 4 miles in length
and under the direction of a race committee. Buoy racing will be conducted
under PHRF handicapping and scored time on time.
Regattas:
Regattas are day or weekend events where all Carlyle Lake sailors may
participate. A regatta may include one or several round-the-buoys races,
or a distance course. Regattas may be sponsored by any of the clubs on
the Lake, including CYC, CSA, BYC, and Tradewinds.
Distance Sailing Program:
Provides for racing over extended courses approximately ten miles in length,
as opposed to "round the buoy" windward / leeward courses. Spinnaker
and Non-spinnaker classes will start simultaneously in a fleet format.
DSP starts occur in a fleet format at exactly 11:AM GPS time, without
a race committee boat. DSP is a multi-club program and any boat owner
on Carlyle Lake is welcome.
Wednesday Navy:
Provides for a fun way to play hookey once a month on summer Wednesday
afternoons. Non-spinnaker only, sailed on a distance course between the
dam, Coles Creek and Cove 4. The start is a rabbit start, where a boat's
starting time is dependent on its rating. The first boat to finish wins
the race.
Hare and Hounds:
Hare and Hounds is sponsored by Carlyle Sailing Association. H and H Provides
for fun, low-key racing on several weekend dates. Spinnaker and Non-spinnaker
boats are accommodated. Hare and Hounds races start just outside the CSA
harbor entrance, and the course is between there, Coles Creek, and Cove
4. A rabbit start is used, where a boat's starting time is dependent on
its rating. The first boat to finish wins the race.
Radio Controlled Sailing Fleet:
Radio Controlled Sailing Fleet began in the spring of 2006 and became
an AMYA sanctioned club in the Fall of 2006. We have sailors of all skill
levels and encourage all who have an interest in sailing. Join us at any
of our scheduled races and take the controls of one of our boats to get
the "feel" of it. We sail primarily Soling One Meter boats but
all RC boats are welcome.
